Frequently asked questions

Do detox drinks and health tonics actually cleanse the body?

The liver and kidneys perform continuous detoxification without any external intervention. No drink 'detoxes' the body. However, certain beverages - warm lemon water, ACV water, green tea, herbal teas - support digestive function, hydration, and provide antioxidants with genuine health benefits independent of any detox claim.

What are the best evidence-based health drinks?

Green tea (catechins, L-theanine, metabolism support), warm water with lemon (hydration, vitamin C, digestive stimulation), beetroot juice (nitrates for blood pressure and endurance), turmeric latte/golden milk (anti-inflammatory curcumin), and plain water are the most evidence-supported health drinks in regular use.

Is drinking warm water in the morning beneficial?

Yes - 500 ml of warm water on waking rehydrates after overnight sleep, supports morning bowel movements by stimulating peristalsis, and begins the digestive process. Adding lemon provides vitamin C and a small amount of citric acid that stimulates bile production, supporting fat digestion for the day ahead.

Are packaged health drinks and protein shakes worth buying?

Most commercial health drinks have high sugar, artificial flavours, and negligible clinical benefit. Real food and home-prepared drinks are almost always superior. If convenience is the need, choose plain whey protein (minimal additives), plain coconut water, or cold-pressed vegetable juices rather than marketed 'health' drink products.

Can green tea help with weight loss?

Green tea modestly increases fat oxidation (by 3-4%) through its catechin-caffeine combination. Studies show 2-4 cups daily can enhance metabolism by approximately 80 kcal/day. While not transformative on its own, replacing sugary tea or coffee with green tea reduces caloric intake meaningfully over time as part of a weight management strategy.
